Father and son ride out for Rory again

Redditch Editorial 23rd Aug, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A REDDITCH father and son are urging people to join the second annual Ride for Rory event organised by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity.

The family cycle ride is on Saturday (September 12) and is a sponsored 18 or 36-mile route in and around Redditch.

Starting at the Alexandra Hospital, the event aims to raise money for the £1.6million Rory the Robot robotic arm appeal to improve the county’s treatment of prostate cancer.

Last year’s event, which raised over £8,500 in sponsorship money alone, was a great success, with 120 residents and hospital staff taking part.

Paul and Jon Gething took part in the event last year to give something back to the hospital and staff who played a huge role in their recovery following an accident.

Paul said: “Having one of these robotic systems at the Alex will make such a difference, not only to patients, but to their friends and families supporting them throughout their treatment.

“I was proud to be part of the event last year and am looking forward to seeing even more people get involved this time around.”

Entry is just £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16 with all funds going towards the Rory the Robot appeal.

The event is open to children over the age of 12 and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Entry includes a Rory the Robot hi-vis jacket.

The charity is asking participants to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship for adults and £25 for children.

To register to Ride for Rory call 01905 760551 or e-mail [email protected] .

Donations are also welcome to the Rory the Robot appeal at www.justgiving.com/rorytherobot, by texting RORY97 + £amount to 70070.
