Police treating explosive Woodrow blaze as arson

POLICE are treating a house fire in Woodrow, which was attended to by firefighters on Saturday evening (September 19), as an arson attack following reports of an explosion.

Two teams from Redditch and one from Bromsgrove attended the scene at Bushley Close, following a call to the emergency services at 9.08pm.

Eyewitnesses said there was an explosion during the blaze and residents living in neighbouring properties suffered a power cut.

One resident added that the power failure and shortages continued throughout Sunday and electricians were still working at 11pm last night (September 20) to secure the area.

The fire caused damage to the front porch of the property but the occupants were able to leave the premises without injury.

Police are keen to speak to a witness who alerted neighbours about the fire by knocking on their door.

He is described as a white man in his seventies and was well-dressed.

Anyone with any information or who may have seen anything suspicious at the time of, or prior to the fire, should call police on 101, quoting incident number 735 of September 19.
