AS football fever sweeps across the country, Redditch welcomes a football freestyle star to share his skills.

Abbas Farid will be in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre this Saturday (June 18), showcasing his record breaking skills and inspiring the people of Redditch to get up and have a go themselves.

Abbas, who has playeed with the likes of Pele and Ronaldinhio said: “Don’t be afraid to come down and learn some skills. Hopefully it may inspire some future stars that could one day play for England. It’s all about just being fearless and having a go.

“Playing football for a living is like winning the Lottery. You don’t quite believe it can happen to you. but just because you’re from a small town doesn’t mean you can’t be successful.”

“I spent a lot of time playing football on my own as a kid. Newport in South Wales was not really a football city, so I struggled to find many people to practice with. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices, but it’s worth it for the love of the game.”

Abbas, who holds the Guinness world record for the most heel juggles in one minute, says he was inspired by what he saw on television during the 1998 World Cup and wants to encourage people to have fun with sport.

“I am always learning new things and exploring new tricks – that’s what makes it so much fun. It’s for the love of the sport and it’s very rewarding,” said the 32-year-old.

People can join Abbas on Saturday from 11am until 5pm where he will be running skill workshops on the hour every hour for around 15 minutes.

Booking is not required and the sessions are completely free.
