Former centre site selling for housing

Redditch Editorial 4th Jul, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE SITE of a former centre for people with learning disabilities is being sold off for housing.

Worcestershire County Council is seeking a buyer for the land off Middlehouse Lane which was formerly occupied by Millfields Social Education Centre before it was demolished and the service relocated.

Redditch Borough Council’s executive committee also agreed at a meeting last Tuesday (June 24) to market a piece of neighbouring land it owns which stretches back behind Birmingham Road. In total they measure more than 2.5 acres.

Both sites were originally put up for sale in 2005 and at the time the plan was to use the land for social housing but the county council had no record of such a deal and attempts to sell their portion for other uses failed.

They are both designated for housing under the council’s proposed Local Plan 4 and it is expected about 30 new homes could be built, however there is no specific planning requirement for the land to be used solely for affordable housing.
