PLANS to see a nightclub demolished and apartments put in its place have been given the green light by planning chiefs.
Redditch Borough Council approved the application to knock down the former Area Night Club, on Church Road, and build a four floor complex with 27 flats and 17 parking spaces, during the meeting on Wednesday (October 14).
Applicant, Mark Mifflin, had his first proposal rejected on September 9, but had his second attempt accepted with six councillors voting for the development and one against. The approval come with the condition that two, one bedroom flats are provided as affordable dwellings in perpetuity.
Councillor Joe Baker said: “I voted against it at the last meeting because it did not look at our social housing policy.
“I am still concerned that the car parking may still be inadequate, however I am pleased they have put forward the affordable housing and I look forward to seeing what they all look like.
“Anything that brings regeneration to the town and to a disused building is a good thing.”
