Former teacher Joan celebrates a milestone

FAMILY members flocked to an Alcester care home to celebrate a special resident’s 100th birthday.

Joan Moorse marked the milestone on Saturday (June 7) at Cherry Trees Care Home with cake and cards.

The former teacher moved to the area about ten years ago to be closer to her son, Stratford-on-Avon district councillor Peter Moorse.

Mrs Moorse was originally from Darlington where she met and married her husband Arnold who passed away aged 95.

After being a prisoner of war, he was reunited with his sweetheart and the pair moved to Devon where Joan taught at the village school.

The centenarian has three children – one boy and two girls – all of whom she taught at the school.

She is now a grandmother to five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Her son Peter said: “She was like all teachers back then, very strict. And of course I would always be in trouble in the classroom for something I never did.”
