EXTREME fund-raising challenges have seen a former teacher raise £20,000 for a cancer charity which helped her family.
Sally Turner is now in training for her tenth Macmillan adventure, which will see her trekking across Cambodia in a year’s time, having just returned from Iceland.
The Matchborough East resident has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro – during which she unknowingly had a pulmonary embolism – cycled from Vietnam to Cambodia and walked in Jordan, Nepal and the Sahara Desert.
As a ‘warm up’ to her tenth challenge, she will be walking from London to Brighton in 24 hours next May and in between she has been donning various costumes including a giant cupcake, Easter bunny and most recently a Halloween pumpkin for collections in and around Redditch.
Sally told the Standard: “I wanted to give back something as family members have had the need of Macmillan and also because there are places in the world I wanted to go and see. I thought if I could raise money at the same time it was the best of both worlds.
“I have now done all the big ones on my bucket list. Every time I do a trek, I say that’s the last one. I was convinced Iceland was going to be my last trek and then I went on the Macmillan website and found the Cambodia one.
“My friends and family think I’m totally bonkers and can’t understand why I’d put myself through it. But they’re addictive, the very first one I did I was completely and utterly hooked.”
