Gaza generosity amazes

A HANDFUL of Redditch residents behind a five day fund-raising campaign for Gaza admit they are amazed by the generosity of the public.

Five friends set themselves a target to raise £1,000 in five days only to hand over more than four times that amount with £4,258 being donated to help those suffering in the war-torn area.

And a spokesman for the Redditch Gaza Appeal 2014 said other fund-raising projects could follow.

“We felt so strongly about the tensions in Gaza that we wanted to make a stand for peace and freedom for the citizens of Gaza by setting ourselves a challenge to raise £1,000 in five days,” he said.

“We planned to ask 50 people on our contacts lists to spare £20 each with all funds going to the UK registered charity Ummah Welfare Trust’s ‘Gaza under attack Appeal’.

“We put the message out on social media where it started trending but we underestimated the support we would be given – it has been an absolutely amazing response from the people of Redditch.”

The Ummah Welfare Trust operates a 100 per cent donations policy and are working on the ground in Gaza to provide emergency medical packs and food packs.
