THOUSANDS of school pupils in the borough and beyond celebrated as they got their GCSE results yesterday (Thursday).
Many of the schools in Redditch, Alcester and Studley secured top results following the national trend.
For the first time in three years the number of exam papers given a good grade increased nationally.
But students in the area went against the grain with top English results, while many across the country showed a record fall in the subject.
Trinity High School’s pupils excelled in maths and English with 80 per cent achieving A* to Cs in both subjects for the third year running, while 70 per cent of students achieved five A* to C grades.
Top performers included Marlon Lakenath who scooped nine A* and A grades, as well as Jamie Hathaway who bagged eight A* and A grades.
RSA Academy Arrow Vale saw record numbers get their English Baccalaureate and 100 per cent of students gained at least five qualifications for the first time ever at the school.
Nearly 60 per cent of students achieved A* to C in English and maths, while the school notched up a record number of grades at A* to A.
Star performers included Matthew Chandler who picked up five A*s and four As as well as Alex Fryer who achieved five A* and four As.
Principal Guy Shears said: “We are incredibly proud of our students, who have worked so hard to gain their grades.
“We are especially delighted that the progress measures in English and maths that enabled us to secure an outstanding judgement from Ofsted this year have been maintained by the class of 2014 – in fact the students making better than expected progress has gone up again.”
A total of 70 per cent of students from St Augustine’s achieved A* to C grades including maths and English, while 84 per cent of students gained five A* to C marks.
Among this incredible results, seven students gained 42 A*s and 27 As between them.
Anthony Quinn, principal at St Augustine’s, said the superb results were due to the hard work of students and staff alike.
It was also another successful year at Tudor Grange Academy Redditch as 76 per cent of the students achieved five or more A* to C grades and 55 per cent of the students achieved five or more A* to C grades including English and maths.
Superb students included Nathan Dyke, Sophie Edkins, Sarah Glass and Heather Hughes who all achieved 8 or more A* and A grades.
Headteacher Stephen Brownlow said: “Again we have achieved an excellent set of GCSE results. I am extremely proud of the students and staff who have worked so hard to achieve these excellent results.”
At Woodrush High School nearly 75 per cent of students gained five or more top grades with 77 per cent gaining A* to Cs in maths and 72 per cent in English.
Alcester Academy also performed well with 76 per cent of students gaining five or more A* to C grades, with 75 per cent of students achieving grade C or above in maths and 69 per cent in English.
Outstanding pupils included Lucinda Grainger with two Bs, six As and three A*s and Laura Kenyon with four Bs, five As and three A*s.
