Ghostly goings on at Forge Mill

A WOODROW resident got slightly more than she bargained for when she completed an overnight ghost hunt at Forge Mill Museum.

Brooke Venables, a self-proclaimed ghost sceptic, completed a tour of the 400-year-old building, which is said to be one of the county’s most haunted locations, in November last year.

But, after she saw the ghostly appearance of a large head in a photograph taken during the event Brooke said she was left feeling rather unnerved.

In the past, the curator of the haunted museum has been called out on many occasions to investigate strange goings-on and unexplained alarm activations in the mill.

Among other spirits, the site is said to be haunted by a female fly dresser who, following an unrequited love affair with a manager, drowned herself in the mill pond and ended up being sliced into pieces when she was swept under the water wheels.

Museum staff, who believe the building is plagued by cold spots and a general feeling of uneasiness, intentionally close the site early in the winter so they do not have to lock up in dark.

Brooke said: “It was really weird – a friend and I were just taking random photographs on our phones in the hope of catching something on film.

“It’s a large head with dark brown hair and it just looks like he or she is watching us.”

During the event, making the experience even spookier, the medium leading the tour described how he could see a ghost’s head and pointed in the same direction of Brooke’s photograph, prior to seeing or hearing about the image.

Brooke added: “It was before he even knew about or had seen my picture, he described my exact photo.”

The 37-year-old returned to Forge Mill at a later date to see if she could see anything else.

She said: “I was a bit nervous to go back and did feel a bit scared – it’s definitely left me spooked.”

Can you spot the ghostly face?

Tip – you can see it on the left of the photograph, floating by the hanging string.
