Glitch sees residents charged twice

Redditch Editorial 18th Jun, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A TECHNICAL error has resulted in residents being charged twice for bill payments.

More than 190 people were affected by a transaction error after using cards to pay their council tax or other bills over the phone, at the cash desk or on the website of Redditch Borough Council.

The error happened last Wednesday (June 11) after a malfunction on the link between the payment site and the bank which is managed by a separate company called TNSLINK.

Anyone who was affected by the issue can be refunded through their banks immediately, although it could take longer to show up on the account.

Any charges on accounts should also be discussed with the bank.

Amanda de Warr, head of customer access and financial support, said: “As soon as we had realised what had happened we shut down the payment channels – though these are now open and working fully.

“I can assure residents the second payment did not come to the Council and that it will be refunded by their bank. Unfortunately this is out of our hands but we are continuing to support customers who have been left in financial difficulty as a result.”

Anyone who has found themselves in financial difficulty as a result of the double payment should call 01527 64252.
