SEVERN Trent Water are urging residents across the town to help them locate a number of private pumping stations which could be located in their own back gardens.
From October 2016, the company will be legally obliged to own and maintain these stations which will be welcome news for some customers who may find them costly and difficult to maintain.
Sam Oliver, spokesperson for Severn Trent Water, said that residents will know if they have one of these station as they generally will be paying for the electricity and a maintenance contract.
He added: “These stations vary in shape and size – they could be as small as a manhole cover or as big as an outhouse at the bottom of a garden.”
Anyone who thinks they have a private pumping station should fill in an online questionnaire at www.stwater.co.uk/sewerownership or call 0800 783 4444.
