NEARLY £9,000 has been used to put on a series of events to celebrate Batchley’s past.

The Awards For All grant from the Big Lottery Fund was given to Batchley Support Group to help them educate youngsters about the area as well as bringing generations together.

Events included a summer celebration which included photos from the historical society and other material showcasing the past and present day while residents were encouraged to tell their life stories.

As part of the project, a play scheme running throughout the school holidays has seen 25 children aged between eight and 13 talking to older residents about their lives while also taking part in arts and crafts, quizzes, sports and trips to Hatton Country World, the safari park and swimming.

The final part of the £8,967 will be used to put on a Christmas showcase to share the work undertaken as part of the project.

Community development manager Paul Woolcock said: “Batchley Support Group is most grateful to have received the award which has enabled us to put events on for the community not just of Batchley but for everyone in Redditch.

“Hopefully we will be able to produce more work and provide more projects through the help of people like Awards For All.”
