Green army to tidy gardens

Redditch Editorial 22nd May, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A COMMUNITY project to brighten up part of Redditch has started this week.

The Growing Batchley project, run by Batchley Support Group, will recruit volunteers to support older and disabled residents to maintain their gardens.

With funding from the People’s Health Trust for the next two years, the scheme’s organisers hope to grow interest in gardening and residents can also benefit from a tool hire scheme to help maintain their own gardens.

Community gardener Alistair Waugh said: “You don’t need green fingers to join us, just a heap of interest to keep Batchley beautiful and carry on gardening.

“We’re going to bring together working groups to tidy gardens, grow fruit and vegetables, whatever ideas come forward really.”
