GRITTERS will be out across the county tonight as road surface temperatures drop to minus five degrees.
The team are set to grit the roads from 6pm following forecasts of light and patchy hoar frost forming along with some localised freezing-fog patches.
With temperatures continuing to fall sharply overnight, Coun John Smith – responsible for highways – has urged drivers to take special care.
He said: “Grit has never been a miracle cure, so as always the message is to never assume it’s safe to travel at normal speeds even if you think a highway has been treated.”
