ORGANISATIONS from across the borough have benefited from funding after this year’s Astwood Bank Carnival.
A total of 18 groups were handed cheques to the value of £6,000 by members of the carnival committee. Those receiving money included schools, the YMCA, Redditch Nightstop, the Sunshine Group, Astwood Bank Operatic Society and the Boys Brigade.
Funds will be used for a range of activities from buying educational robots to funding for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.
Committee chair Jenny Lightfoot said: “All of the organisations receiving money have helped us throughout the year, so it is great to give back to the local community. This is the highlight of the year for us as a committee.
“All those hours of hard work putting on not only the events of the carnival weekend in early July but the other events we hold throughout the year, are well worth it when you see the delighted faces of the recipients of the cheques.”
She added in addition to the money handed out this week, the committee had been able to allocate a small fund for projects which could be nominated by members of the public to benefit the residents of Astwood Bank.
One idea currently under review was funding more floral decorations in the area, but volunteers to help arrange and manage them would be required.
Funding has also been put aside to reinvest in the carnival, including the gradual replacement of 1.5km of bunting.
