A GROUP of inspirational gym-goers took on their biggest challenge yet by walking day and night from London to Brighton.

The tenacious team pounded the pavement, forged their way through forests and descended into the darkness for the 100-kilometere walk.

Each member of the Abbey Stadium gym chose a particular charity to raise funds for.

Dave and Rachel Mills and Sarah Wilson picked the Primrose Hospice, while Jo Taylor completed the task in just over 23 hours for breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk.

“Not only does the charity raise money for cancer research it also provides cold caps to help people who risk losing their hair during treatment,” she said.

“If I was ever diagnosed with cancer one of things I would find really hard is losing my hair. I thought if I could do anything to help people in that awful situation then I would.”

She added next year she wanted to volunteer at similar events to encourage other walkers.

Southcrest resident Julie Barlow also completed the walk alongside her daughter and husband.

“My husband lost his brother at 37 to a brain tumour ten years ago, so it seemed like the right time and the right cause to raise money for.”

She added: “It was really tough but it was all good fun and I’m glad we did it.”

The group have raised more than £9,000 so far between them and donations are still flooding in.
