A REDDITCH man who bit and headbutted his stepfather in an unprovoked attack has escaped with a suspended sentence.
Anthony Keith Samuel Craig, of Newland Close, Woodrow, pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on Friday (July 24) to injuring Graham Craig on Sunday July 5.
Owen Beale, prosecuting, told the court the 25-year-old had been at a party at his stepfather’s home where he drank a lot of alcohol. Graham Craig called a taxi to take his stepson home, but the offender got into a fight with the driver and returned to the house.
“When his step-father answered the door he pushed him and he went into the fence, he then got on top of him and punched him and bit him on the cheek.
“The victim sustained a swollen top lip, a grazed shoulder and cuts to his back, which all started with a headbutt.”
Interviewed under caution the defendant was upset by his actions as he regarded the victim as a father.
Defence solicitor Shaun Newey, said: “He consumed more alcohol than he normally would and acted in a way that he bitterly regrets.”
Craig was given a 12 week sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to do 50 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £150 in compensation, £85 in court costs, an £85 victim surcharge, and a £150 court charge.
