Redditch Editorial 4th Jul, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

PHOTOGRAPHS of Redditch’s past, unseen for many years, will mark the start of a week of festivities celebrating Redditch’s 50th anniversary as a new town.

Redditch Local History Society is appealing to the public to help identify what event the images are capturing and who is in them as part of a special exhibition they are hosting on Saturday, July 26 at Redditch Library between 10am and 4pm.

Residents are also being asked to leave their memories of ‘Old Redditch’ to help the society continue to build its Remembering Lost Redditch website.

The event marks the official start of the So Redditch Festival which runs from Saturday, July 26 to Sunday, August 3. It includes a Monopoly tournament, family fun day, street theatre and more.

The highlight is the festival parade on Saturday, August 2. More information will be released on the programme in the Standard over the coming weeks.

Visit www.redditchhistorysociety.org.uk for more details on the history exhibition and the society’s activities.

* AN AFTERNOON tea with a 1960s theme is being held to mark the 50th anniversary of Redditch as a new town.

Carers Careline, based in the ecumenical centre in the town centre, is hosting the event on Thursday (July 10) between 2pm and 4pm. It will include a 1960s music, a quiz, cakes and a raffle.

The event is open to the public and entrance is £1.50 but free to registered carers. It is one of the 50

events the public were challenged to create to mark the 50th anniversary.

Carers Careline provides support to informal and unpaid cares in Redditch over 18. The service relies on funding and is currently supported by The Big Lottery Fund, Redditch Borough Council and other Trusts.

For help and advice email [email protected] or call 01527 66177 for more information. Carers Careline is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 1pm.

* PLACES are still available for the Made in Redditch Market.

Taking place on Wednesday, July 30 in Market Place the event aims to give residents a chance to showcase and sell the products they make.

Products have to either be made in Redditch or by someone from Redditch.

Stalls cost a nominal fee of just £10 which will be used to fund future activities within the town centre. To register email [email protected] or call 01527 534178. Payment must be made in cash or by cheque payable to Redditch Town Centre Partnership and can be dropped off at the

Town Hall for the attention of Alexa Williams.

The event is part of the week long So Redditch Festival taking place between July 26 and August 3. Visit www.so-redditch.info for more information.
