Historic day could be on the cards in Redditch

HISTORY will be made in this year’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series, the televised race Series which comes to Redditch on Thursday, May 26.

Last year’s Champions Madison Genesis will be hoping to defend their title, and if they do they would become the first team to win back-to-back Tour Series titles.

Aiming to take the fight to them will be the JLT Condor presented by Mavic team, who should they come out on top after the ten events would become the first team to claim a hat trick of titles, having won overall in 2011 and 2014.

While should the title go to any of NFTO, Pedal Heaven, Team Raleigh GAC or Team Wiggins it would be their first overall success, adding their names to the six other squads who have come out on top in the hotly contested Series in previous editions.

Madison Genesis team manager David Povall could also make history should his team defend their title, as he would become only the second manager to have won the Series twice with different teams.

“It is fantastic to contest the 2016 Pearl Izumi Tour Series, once again taking top level cycling around the country and on ITV4,” said David.

The Pearl Izumi Tour Series started yesterday, Thursday, May 12 at Ramsey on the Isle of Man with round 2 in Motherwell on Tuesday, May 17 and round 3 in Edinburgh on Thursday, May 19.

Redditch though is renowned as the circuit the riders prefer most, with its tough switchback from Church Green West into Prospect Hill, it’s full speed left hander into Clive Road, finishing with it’s lung-busting ascent up Unicorn Hill.

A packed programme of events is planned to support the big races in Redditch on May 26 with the fun starting from 11am building up to an afternoon of fun, entertainment and of course, the fantastic tour ‘village’.
