Hoping new venture will pull in punters

A BOROUGH couple hope to be pulling in the punters when they open a new bar.

Adam and Theresa Freeth have beaten off competition from some of the UK’s leading venues to launch Gas Street Social in Birmingham’s Mailbox.

The Oakenshaw residents came up with the idea for the bar and restaurant after Adam travelled across Europe working in the tourism industry.

Inspired by his mother, who used to run pubs across Redditch, at just 19 he went to Ibiza where he managed a bar.

The entrepreneur then set up the company Shaker Group as part of his university course where he went on to hold cocktail training courses, consult top industry names such as the Hyatt and host events including Richard Branson’s daughter’s 21st birthday.

After opening a bar in London three years ago, the duo decided to pitch their idea for the spot in the Mailbox which is set to open in March.

The 35-year-old said: “We just said why don’t you look at something completely different and work with a local business instead of another national chain? And they loved the concept and the idea.

“We would love to get support from people in Redditch, it would be great to see them there.”
