MORE than 100 people enjoyed a trip to the seaside this week thanks to funding from Redditch county councillor Pattie Hill.

The councillor for Arrow Valley West funded the trip to Weston-super-Mare for invited families in Redditch who access Early Help Services.

The trip took place on Tuesday (August 16) and saw nearly 150 children, staff and parents board three 53-seater coaches to go to the seaside for the day.

Louise Hall, Early Help community co-ordinator said: “We are thankful and very lucky in Redditch to have such great support from Coun Hill. This trip allowed so many families to spend quality time together and have fun. What beautiful weather we had!”

Coun Hill, who also gave the children buckets and spades, said: “I am delighted to fund this trip to Weston. Every child should be able to experience one of our traditions, such as sandcastles, donkey rides, visiting a funfair or paddling in the sea. I really hope everyone had a great day.”

Coun Marc Bayliss, county cabinet member with responsibility for children and families added: “It is wonderful that Coun Hill funded this trip for users of the Early Help Service, many of whom don’t have the means to enjoy day trips to the seaside.”

One child on the trip clearly enjoyed being by the seaside, saying: “I loved making sandcastles and playing in the sea. I liked the soft sand.”

Other comments included: “Thank you so much for giving us a wonderful day out, it is so much appreciated and has done us the world of good as a family.”

“Thank you so much for allowing my daughter and myself to make memories which, if not for your generosity, would not have happened.

“With my mental health issues and my daughter’s special needs, money is very tight and we are so grateful to you and Early Help.”
