PROMOTING good mental health has been the focus of a six-week project undertaken by Trinity High School students.

Pupils from Year 10, who are now Mental Health Champions, have been joined by the YMCA’s project co-ordinator Leanne Fox for the scheme which looked at ways of improving awareness within the school.

She said: “The students felt it was important to get the message out there to help break down the stigma that surrounds mental health. They are passionate about stopping discriminations and the judgements made.”

Student Maddie Anderson said as well as creating an information board to put up in the corridors, they had listened to different music and tried various food and kept a log of the effects they had had on their mood.

“We are trying to show everyone how we can help each other. We want people to speak out and tell people if there is something wrong or if they feel like they are becoming worse.”
