SEEING first hand how a charity helps the families of sick children has inspired a borough fast food worker to speak out about the work they do.
Aaron Whittaker, who works at the Moons Moat Drive branch of McDonald’s as a part-time crew trainer, has appeared in an online video talking about the importance of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. There is also another short film on the website highlighting what the charity does to mark its 25th anniversary.
The charity enables the families of patients at Birmingham Children’s Hospital to stay overnight nearby rather than having to make the journey home every evening.
The 20-year-old, who lives in Church Hill North, said he was inspired to help after his best friend’s sister was diagnosed with leukaemia in August 2013.
“Their family had to rely on the Ronald McDonald House and they’re full of praise about what the charity did for them.” he said.
“I was aware of the charity before I joined McDonald’s but when I joined I wanted to help raise as much as possible.”
He added he had worked there for around ten months, contributing part of his pay to the charity as well as helping out at fund-raising events.
“I get involved as much as I can really because I think it is a really good cause. I feel a good feeling knowing my money’s going to make a difference.”
