Izzy hits the world BMX stage

SUPER cyclist Izzy Rooke is blazing a trail on the BMX track after representing Team GB at the World Championships at Zolder in Belgium.

The go faster 12-year-old is so quick she’s been nominated for the British Cycling regional school of racing and will compete at the National Indoor BMX track in Manchester where Britain’s all conquering track cyclists train on the velodrome.

Proud dad Steve, who works for Redditch borough council, said Izzy, who starts at St Augustine’s School in the autumn, had only taken up the sport two years ago.

“We’re pretty blown away as this has happened so fast,” he said, “to see her on the world stage is phenomenal.”

The Matchborough youngster is the current Midlands champion and National No8 and was picked out by British Cycling thanks to her consistently high finishing positions.

Steve himself is a former BMX freestyle rider and is involved with the Redditch Premiers BMX team, although Izzy is now so good she’s sponsored to ride for team Fresh BMX.

And Steve’s quite clear about what gives Izzy the winning edge: “She trains hard, works on her skills, gets her head down and gets on with it.”
