Judges give Studley the green thumbs up before Heart of England in Bloom competition

TWO top judges from the Heart of England in Bloom competition visited Studley on Friday in a dry run for the village’s Britain in Bloom inspection next month.

Jennifer Wharton and Roger Bache gave everything the once over as they toured the sites that have brought Studley five gold medals in five years in the Heart of England in Bloom event.

“Horticulture, environment and community – these are the three pillars of the competition,” said Mr Bache as they toured key sites, en route describing the village’s hanging baskets, even as traffic thundered past on the busy A435, and ‘absolutely fantastic’.

“We think everything went well, maybe a few minor tweaks here and there,” said Studley in Bloom chair Jill Liebthal.

“We shall have two or three days coming up to the weekend just to make sure everything is as it should be.”

The Studley in Bloom is very much a collective effort with local schoolchildren, students, members of the community and inmates from Hewell Grange prison all putting their hearts into making the village looks its absolute best.

The Britain in Bloom judges arrive early on Tuesday morning (August 2) and then it will be fingers crossed until the results are announced in September.
