Kerry’s baking a plan to win Miss UK title

A SINGLE mum from Crabbs Cross faces a busy few weeks as she prepares to battle it out with some of Britain’s most beautiful women.

Kerry Deavs, who was crowned Miss Worcestershire at a glitzy ceremony at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium earlier this year, is hoping for more success when she competes in the prestigious Miss UK contest next month.

But the 30-year-old from Banner Lane admits she would have withdrawn from the competition had it not been for a pyschic who said she saw Kerry with a bunch of roses and a gold pendant – some of the prizes up for grabs in the grand final.

“I’m not really a confident person and this is really out of my comfort zone.” admitted the mother-of-two who will have sons Reece, aged ten, and eight-year-old Bobby cheering her on.

“I have come so close to pulling out of the competition and it was what the physic saw in my reading that finally convinced me to carry on.”

Kerry not only took the honours in the Miss Worcestershire competition, she also took first prize in the Miss Eco and Miss Charity contests which were staged alongside the main event. For those, she had to create an eco dress – made from chicken wire and bubblewrap – and then raise funds for charity which she did by selling cakes and climbing Snowdon.

For Miss UK, which will be staged in Cannock on August 9, she needs to make another dress and raise more money. And all this while working as a receptionist and administrator at after-school tuition group Kumon.

“Being a working single mum is exhausting and there is so much to do ahead of Miss UK.” she added.

“I don’t have much confidence and nearly dropped out until I had my reading a few weeks ago.”

To help Kerry with her charity appeal she plans to hold a number of cake sales at work and she has also arranged a Psychic Night on Thursday, July 31 at Studley’s Swan pub.

Entry to the 7pm event costs £5 and further money will be collected when people have their palms read.
