Lack of support spurs single dad to take the lead

A DEDICATED single father has set up a special group to support others in the same situation.

Studley resident Russell Wall said fathers had little or no choice of groups to attend with their children as nearly all of them were aimed at mothers.

As a father-of-three he said the lack of services on offer had led him to setting up a group where dads could meet regularly alone and with their children.

“There just does not seem to be anything out their for men. There’s plenty of groups for mums and toddlers or mums and babies, but nothing specifically for fathers.” he said.

“When you go through a separation you do realise a lot of your friends were made by association with your wife, so you can end up not seeing them again.

“I think men are not the best at meeting new people anyway, and I think by putting together a group I could point dads in the right direction.”

The group is still in its early stages and anyone interested in the idea should message Russell on Facebook while ideas about meeting places or days out are also welcome.

The 33-year-old added the group would also welcome men in relationships as there was still a limited choice of groups available for men in general.

“I hope we get a lot of members and then extend the group into smaller groups which could be tailored to children’s ages, such as a toddler group or teenage group.” he added.

“It is early days but I hope it can really make a difference to all the dads in the same position as me.”
