THE LEADER of Redditch Borough Council is urging the County Council to reconsider taking action on the Muskets Way Bridge.
Councillor Bill Hartnett is calling for a re-assessment of the area which he believes poses a risk to residents following the death of a man on Sunday (July 3).
Coun Hartnett wrote a letter to the council after two earlier deaths at the same spot, and has now sent the same plea in the hope county chiefs will now take notice.
“I urge Worcestershire County Council to re-consider the safety issues at this footbridge in light of yet another tragedy at the same location,” he said.
“It does not necessarily have to be caging but something has to be done to minimise the chance of incidents like the one on Sunday.
“This latest is a tragedy which may have been avoided.
“I believe the assessment which was carried out in 2013 was incomplete and incorrect.”
