A BOROUGH sewing group has received a thimble-ivable cash boost totalling £10,000.
The Sewing Cafe, based at Cedar House on Britten Street, was given the huge cash injection by the Big Lottery Fund in a bid to improve the wellbeing of community.
The scheme, which teaches people new sewing skills as well as providing a place to make new friends, will use the money to fund workshops and sessions for residents from deprived backgrounds living with mental health issues.
It is hoped the sessions will increase community participation and help tackle health and wellbeing issues for those most in need in the home of the needle – Redditch.
The Community Interest Company is just one of 127 projects across the West Midlands to be given a share of more than £1 million.
Others to also benefit from the grants include Abbeywood First School which has received just under £10,000 for play equipment and Stock and Bradley Village Hall which was given £948 for a new system which will help those who are hard of hearing.
Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund deputy director for England, said: “Today’s awards are all about supporting people taking the lead to make a positive change in their local areas. These excellent projects will help improve communities in the West Midlands through National Lottery funding.”
