A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after a shop assistant was threatened several times to hand over scratch cards.

The 24-year-old was taken into custody today (Friday) and police are now hunting for witnesses to the offence which took place between 6am and 12.15pm on Sunday (July 3) at Martin McColls on Tanhouse Lane.

The offender was a black man, of a slim build, about 6ft tall, clean shaven with short dark hair which was shaved around the sides.

He wore a dark coloured Adidas zip up jacket with three stripes down the sleeves, with a light green and navy t-shirt, jeans and dark coloured trainers with white soles.

Detective Constable Neil Solomon of West Mercia Police said: “This would have been an extremely frightening ordeal for store staff and took place during a busy Sunday morning.

“I would urge anyone who may have any information about the incident to please call us. We are continuing to make enquiries and we would like to reassure the community this behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Any witnesses are urged to call the police on the non emergency 101 number or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
