TWO men have been arrested in connection with the two robberies committed in Redditch this week with the use of firearms.

One man, in his forties, was taken into custody in Winyates this morning (April 21) after two bookmakers were robbed in the space of three days which led to armed police patrols on the town’s streets.

Another man, in his 50s, was arrested in Batchley in the last few hours on suspicion of assisting an offender with the robberies after a warrant was executed on Salters Lane.

The first happened on Monday (April 18) at about 3.50pm at the store on Batchley Road where the culprit made off with cash.

The second took place yesterday (Wednesday) at about 9am on Shakespeare Avenue after a man entered the shop with a suspected firearm and threatened the staff to hand over the money before he fled the scene.

Ins Darren Webster said: “Following robberies at two different bookmakers in Redditch a dedicated investigation team was launched. As part of this a number of search warrants were carried out yesterday evening (20 April) and this morning (21 April), and as a result of this a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

“The safety of the public has been at the heart of this investigation throughout and local officers will continue to patrol and visit bookmakers and other premises in the town to help to reassure the community.”

Enquiries are still on-going and the police are still urging anyone with information to contact them on the non emergency 101 number or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or visit their website.
