THERE were some very excited students at RSA Academy Arrow Vale on Wednesday (October 21) as breakout artist Max Restaino paid a visit to the Matchborough site as part of his national schools tour.

The Sheffield singer songwriter is on a mission to inspire the next generation of musicians and hit makers and received critical acclaim with the release of his debut single ‘Obvious’.

The 18-year-old is already in good company, having perfomed on Gary Barlow’s solo album ‘Since I Saw You Last’ and is featured on Donny Osmond’s 60th album as well as playing saxophone and accordion with Olly Murs for a Children In Need special.

More recently, the talented musician has been working with Geri Halliwell in the studio and featured on backing vocals for Peter Kay’s ‘‘Phoenix Nights Tour’ and ‘Car Share’.

Speaking before the performance at Arrow Vale’s Rhett theatre, Max admitted working with ex Take That pop sensation Gary Barlow was the most nerve-wracking thing he had ever done.

“It’s the most nervous I have ever been,” he added. “Performing at Sheffield Arena however came a close second.”

The breakout star puts his own unique Northern charm on the sounds of big band artists such as Michael Bublé and can play a variety of instruments, including the accordion, piano, saxophone and guitar.

On his first visit to Redditch Max, who also writes and produces for Hollyoaks and LA film director Mark Jacobs, said he was looking forward to performing and promised the gangs of teenage schoolgirls he was due to face wouldn’t phase him.

“It’s all about the music,” he added. “The students can expect a cover of something they will recognise and a lot of original music.”
