Millions spent improving roads

Redditch Editorial 8th Aug, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

ONE HUNDRED miles of road surface across Worcestershire has been improved as part of a £3.5million summer project.

Surface dressing has been used on around 200 roads, many of them in the Redditch area, with Worcestershire Highways carrying out the work.

Coun John Smith OBE, responsible for highways, said: “The team has worked really hard since the programme started in April and the weather has been kind meaning they have been able to get through an amazing amount of work to ensure the Worcestershire-wide improvement scheme has been completed on time.

“We know by listening to residents that improving our roads is a priority, which is why we’ve invested more than £50million over the last few years into doing just that.

“Surface dressing is an excellent preventative measure that allows us to extend the lifespan of roads catching them at a point before more costly methods of repair are needed.”
