MP Karen Lumley backing fight to beat teenage cancer

REDDITCH Karen Lumley MP has pledged her support to take action against cancer in young people by supporting Teenage Cancer Action Week to raise awareness of the signs of cancer in young people aged 13-24.

It comes after new figures revealed that 29 per cent of young cancer patients are being diagnosed only after their health deteriorates to the point of being admitted to Accident & Emergency.

The research also shows that 32 per cent of young patients had a poor diagnosis experience indicated by three or more visits to a GP before referral.

The five most common signs of cancer in young people aged 13 to 24 are unexplained and persistent pain, a lump, bump or swelling, extreme tiredness, significant weight loss and changes in a mole.

Mrs Lumley said: “I have always supported this fantastic charity. I hope that teenagers and young adults take notice of the advice given and become aware of the signs of cancer in young people aged 13-24.”
