MP in call for urgent ministerial meeting

REDDITCH MP Karen Lumley has called for an emergency meeting with the Schools Minister to discuss the education system in the borough.

The move by Mrs Lumley comes in response to several schools announcing their intention to change their admission policies which could cause chaos across Redditch.

She has also written to Stephen Brownlow, headteacher at Tudor Grange Academy Redditch, which sparked the problem by proposing to accept children from the age of 11.

In the letter she said: “You state in your consultation documents your desire to ‘continue the positive relationships with schools in Redditch’.

“I would suggest in order for this to be possible Tudor Grange must seek to move alongside other schools rather than seeking to move them by force and risking disrupting the entirety of Redditch’s education system. As you know, our schools have gone from strength to strength in recent years with almost 70 per cent of pupils now achieving the five A* to C GCSE standard compared to 54 per cent in 2011 and 37 per cent in 2007, and any change must be done in order to build on these improvements.”
