MP Karen Lumley remembers the fallen in Astwood Bank

REDDITCH MP Karen Lumley joined members of the Royal British Legion in Astwood Bank yesterday (November 8) to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in conflict.

Mrs Lumley attended a service at St George and St Matthias Church and laid a wreath at the village war memorial to remember those who died serving their country – not just in the two World Wars, but in all the conflicts the UK has been involved with since.

This year marks 70 years since the end of WWI, while it is over 100 years since the First World War was begun.

Karen said: “These are events that happened a long time ago in our history and that fewer and fewer can actually remember, but they are still events which we must never forget.”

Mrs Lumley will also be in Redditch on Wednesday (November 11) – Armistice Day – to lay a wreath at the Plymouth Road War Memorial at 11am.

Yesterday (Sunday), was the first year since being elected as Redditch County MP in 2010 that Karen had joined the Royal British Legion in Astwood Bank, rather than in the town centre.

However her husband Richard joined councillors at the commemoration in Redditch at the same time.
