Mum facing the chop

A CARING mother will be lopping off her locks to create a wig for children undergoing cancer treatment.

Claire Danks will face the chop at Toni and Guy in Redditch town centre this Saturday (August 30) at 1pm.

The 31-year-old will donate her cut off hair to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for those who have suffered hair loss due to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, while she has also raised more than £200 to fund the cost of making the wig.

The maternity support worker from Studley said: “The number of people I have known who have had cancer or have been affected by it was part of why I wanted to do this. I have personally lost people.

“My daughter has a friend at school who was recently diagnosed with leukaemia and was getting her wig from the charity.

I just thought about it and I realised I wanted to do something about it myself.

“I just thought what would my daughters feel like if they lost their hair. Little girls love playing with their hair and dressing up and it must be really horrifying for them if they lost it, just the same as little boys.”

A spokeswoman from the Little Princess Trust said they were extremely thankful for Claire’s donation.

“The charity knows what a positive difference receiving a real-hair wig has on a poorly boy or girl.

“It not only lifts the child but those around them too at such a difficult time.

“Claire should feel very proud knowing that she is helping to make someone else’s life better.”
