THE FIRST Redditch Music Festival is set to entertain crowds from today (Friday).

A total of nine indoor and outdoor venues based around the town centre will host the best of local talent as musicians take to the stage in the three day event which runs until Sunday (August 3).

Outdoor gigs will be taking place on The Bandstand and local pubs will have bands at various times throughout the weekend beginning from 8pm tonight (Friday).

Cafe Mambo will host at least eight acts on Saturday afternoon alone with the Midland Regulators also set to perform on Sunday.

Death or Glory Records have also organised buskers for the festival who can be seen around the town during the day on Saturday (August 2), while The Queen’s Head, Easemore Road Club and more will also be getting into the festival spirit throughout the three days.

The festival also features a special gig by John Bonham’s sister Deborah who will be holding a one-off acoustic set in support of the John Bonham Memorial Fund tomorrow (Saturday) from 6.45pm at St Stephen’s Church.

Festival organiser Steve Barnes said: “It has been every warmly welcomed by musicians in the community as well as venues and I think we have exceeding at keeping it to local talent.

“Everyone should take the opportunity to visit as many venues as they can, they are all quality gigs, and they should experience as many bands and see what Redditch musicians have to offer.”

All the gigs are free with the exception of the performance by Deborah Bonham which cost £12 on the door subject to availability. Visit www.johnbonhammemorialfund.com to book or for more information.
