A MYSTERIOUS man in Redditch has given a work of art worth almost £200 to an unsuspecting stranger.
On Friday (June 10) the man dressed entirely in maroon stood up in the family-run Astwood Galleries cafe and offered his newly-framed £200 print free to whoever wanted it.
The people in the busy cafe were taken aback at his gesture but eventually one person came forward to claim the gift.
Recipient, Rebecca Partridge, said: “To start with I didn’t think he really meant it, but he seemed very sincere. The generosity of it overwhelmed me.
“It truly was a wonderful gesture and it’s good to know that there are still genuinely nice people around.”
Rebecca plans to hang the print in her home in Redditch so she can enjoy it every day.
She continued: “I just want the man to know – whoever he is – how grateful I am.”
The gentleman, usually known only as ‘the anonymous donor’ has exclusively revealed his name to the Redditch Standard following this random act of kindness.
The elusive ‘Mr Johnson’ had been in the gallery to collect a large number of framed prints and paintings when he decided to give one of his purchases away.
Gallery owner, Gemma Roberts-Hindle, said: “We are in shock that one of our customers should receive such a lovely donation.
“It couldn’t have gone to a more deserving person – Rebecca loves the gallery and has such a colourful personality, the print really suits her.”
