Native tree planting opens 'Marlfield'

THE chairman of the Government’s housing and regeneration agency for England paid a special visit to a Redditch housing development and marked the occasion by planting a rare breed of apple tree that is native to the town.

Robert Napier CBE, from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), toured the award winning Marlfield development in Church Hill last Tuesday (July 21) where he met residents and performed the official ‘Doddin’ tree planting ceremony – which marked the official opening of the site.

The environmentally friendly £8m Marlfield development – which received £1.8m from the HCA’s Affordable Homes Programme – is the largest closed panel low carbon timber frame housing scheme in the UK, made up of 79 homes and featuring two-eco homes.
