SHOPPERS found out if they were at risk of lung disease as borough nurses marked World COPD Day.
Members of the respiratory team at the Alexandra Hospital spent the day in the Kingfisher Centre on Wednesday (November 19) to hand out advice and sign residents up to their smoking cessation services.
The annual day is aimed at improving awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and this year’s theme was ‘It’s Not Too Late’.
Specialist Joanna Richards said they had around 20 people who were interested in quitting smoking and many more who had stopped to speak to them.
“The response was better than expected and people stopped to talk to us and ask for medical advice. We also had patients on hand to share their experiences which was really useful and a few people wanted to join the Breathe Easy patient group.”
