New sci-fi comic hero will be born

A FIRE Service watch commander training instructor from Walkwood is celebrating his boyhood dream coming true.

Jon Laight, who is based at a Droitwich training centre, is launching his very own superhero sci-fi comic, Brethren Born, on October 24 but is holding a pre-launch event next Saturday (October 10

) at Hide N Geek Comic store in Worcester’s Reindeer Court.

The Standard reported in May how Jon was appealing for support from readers for his crowdfunding project to launch Brethren Born via the Kickstarter platform and now his dream is coming true.

“It’s been a really busy summer,” Jon added. “I’ve been attending other Comic Conventions and making new contacts in the industry.”

During the crowdfunding process, Jon was able to raise more than £5,000 with 113 people supporting his and artist Phil Knibbs’ vision.

Jon added: “I am currently in talks with a group of comic writers and artists to create a ‘collective’ of creators who will help promote each others work around the country – it’s a really exciting opportunity.”

The comic, which will launch officially at the Nottingham Comic Convention, is aimed at a slightly older audience as it does have one or two swear words.

Anyone interested in pre-ordering a copy prior to the launch should contact [email protected] or go along to the events on October 10 and 24 to pick up a copy.
