CRAFTY and creative residents are being sought to showcase the talent on offer in the borough.

The Made in Redditch Market is being staged on Wednesday, July 30 in Market Place as part of the week-long festival to mark the 50th anniversary of Redditch’s designation as a new town.

The event is specifically aimed at residents who make their own products either at home as a small business venture or a hobby in their spare time to provide them with an opportunity to promote their talents to a wider audience.

The only requirement is that the products are either made in Redditch or by someone from Redditch.

In total 30 stalls will be available on the day and Redditch Town Centre Partnership, which is organising the So Redditch Festival programme, are hoping to showcase as a wide a variety of products as possible.

Those already signed up to the event include Ros Sidaway of Vintage Trax who will be selling her collection of unique gift items made out of old vinyl records and Fay Yeng, who runs the Yum Tum Club, and will be launching her Taste of Redditch project to compile a book of favourite recipes made by Redditch residents.

“The Taste of Redditch project uses the food we eat as a unique way of exploring our cultures and the Made in Redditch Market is the perfect platform to share that with the public.” she said.

Alexa Williams, town centre co-ordinator and part of the TCP, added: “When you scratch the surface it is amazing the range of products made in Redditch but very few people know about them.

“The Made in Redditch market will give our creative residents an opportunity to demonstrate their talents to a wider audience.”

There is a nominal fee of £10 to register for the market, which will be used to fund future activities within the town centre. To register email [email protected] or call 01527 534178. Payment must be made in cash or by cheque payable to Redditch Town Centre Partnership and can be dropped off at the Town Hall for the attention of Alexa Williams.
