No tickets please

Redditch Editorial 9th May, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE DAY of the bus ticket is numbered following the launch of a new mobile app by Diamond.

Redditch has become the first place in Worcestershire and the West Midlands to introduce the technology which allows passengers to buy virtual tickets with their credit or debit card, which they then show on their phone to the driver.

Diamond has already trialled the app in Wessex where it has proved popular.

Currently day, weekly and monthly tickets are available through the app with yearly passes to follow. There are also plans to include timetable information in the future.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley helped officially launch the app last Friday (May 2) at Redditch Bus Station as part of Catch the Bus week.

Stephen Haselden, group business development and strategy manager for Diamond, said: “Not everyone has change in this day and age and with a lot of people using cards in shops if they’ve got no cash they can’t get on a bus.

“This should make life easier for everyone. We’re slowly bringing transport into the 21st century.”
