AN OLYMPIAN and world champion runner got pupils on track to pursuing their dreams at St George’s First School.
Daniel Caines, who secured gold in the 400m race at the World Indoor Championships in 2001, as well as being a European gold medallist and Commonwealth Games winner, went to the Steveson Avenue school to talk to pupils about his career as part of the Be the Best you can Be programme.
The scheme aims to boost confidence, engage young people, and teach them about their potential and how they can fulfil their dreams.
Mr Caines spoke to the children about the day he was told he would never run again but defeated the odds to qualify for the GB Olympic squad in 2000, and later made the 400m final in Sydney.
