Pair jailed for heroin dealing

A PAIR of drug dealers have been jailed for more than seven years after being caught with heroin in Redditch.

Kamaro Dixon of Oak Tree Avenue in Batchley, was handed a four-and-a-half year sentence at Worcester Crown Court on Thursday (June 12) for possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

The 25-year-old originally denied the charge but was found guilty by a jury.

Janis Ozolins, 27 and of Fownhope Close in Winyates, was a given a three year sentence after admitting to the same charge.

The court heard how both men were arrested on January 2 this year after detectives from Redditch CID used a warrant to search a flat at Fownhope Close.

It followed concerns by residents who noticed people regularly coming and going from the property and suspected it was drug dealing.

During the search an 8.81g bag of heroin with a street value of between £270 and £970 was seized by officers.

Det Con O’Reilly said: “These men were street dealers and their activities were having a big impact on the community.

“There was a lot of concern, not least because this was going on near a school.

“We are clamping down hard on this and the jailing of these men sends out a clear and strong message that it will not be tolerated.

“Those who deal in drugs and bring misery to their neighbourhoods can expect to lose their liberty and this case also demonstrates that when such matters are brought to our attention we will act swiftly and decisively.”

Anyone with any information about drug misuse should contact police on the non-emergency number 101, or details can be passed on anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
