Pie company hoping for slice of the action

THE PIE is the limit for one Redditch company which has been nominated for a national award.

Proper Pies Ltd, based in Enfield, is in the running to be crowned winner of England’s Best Steak Pie 2015.

The competition, which is run by industry body EBLEX, looks for the best products on sale by supermarkets, butchers and manufacturers across the country, with Proper Pies making it into the Foodservice category.

Their recipe for success is a Stout and Black Treacle Marinated Beef Brisket and Guinness Cottage Pie – one of just 14 steak pies to achieve a Gold Award in the competition.

Hugh Judd, competition organiser: “The standard of entries in this year’s competition was very impressive, the judges had a tough time to decipher the very best.

“The six steak pies that made it through to the final are shining examples of how using high-quality ingredients can make a steak pie stand out from the rest – just getting this far in the competition is a real achievement.

“Proper Pies Ltd’s Stout and Black Treacle Marinated Beef Brisket and Guinness Cottage Pie is now in with a chance of being crowned England’s Best Steak Pie and I wish them the very best of luck.”
