NEW PLANS to revamp an eyesore site in Feckenham have been passed by councillors.
The bid by Pat Dormer to build six homes on the site in the Paddocks, Astwood Lane was backed by Redditch Borough Council’s Planning Committee at a meeting last Wednesday (August 6).
An earlier application to replace the workshops and stables currently in place with eight homes was narrowly rejected with committee chairman Coun Andy Fry having the casting vote.
It led to allegations the vote had been politically motivated as Conservative councillors had supported the application – an accusation Coun Fry rejected at the time saying he had voted on the evidence, with planners recommending refusal as the application was for a substantial development in the greenbelt.
But planners this time backed the application, which contains a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes, saying the design had been greatly improved, was in character with the area and would have no greater impact on the openness of the greenbelt than what was already there.
The application also had the backing of more than 100 residents and Feckenham Parish Council which stated the proposal would tidy up the appearance of the site which was a key gateway to the village and help support its viability. Just four objections were received.
Coun Joe Baker said concerns raised last time had been listened to and addressed while Coun Andrew Brazier added: “This is in-keeping with and will enhance the local area.”
Some issues still need to be negotiated including financial contributions to Feckenham First, Ridgeway Middle and Tudor Grange Academy schools, playing pitches and play areas.
An appeal has been lodged against the refusal of the application to build eight homes on the land and is still waiting to be considered.
Elizabeth Mitchell, agent for Mrs Dormer, said they would consider the outcome of the meeting before deciding whether or not to drop the appeal.
