Plea for Redditch residents to help Bob the Beagle

A REDDITCH woman is holding a fund-raising day so her pet beagle can get vital surgery on a poorly leg.

Kate Hazzard-Smith needs £2,500 to repair a torn ligament suffered by her pooch Bob.

Playful Bob has had a chequered history; rescued from the streets of Romania a doting previous owner overfed to the extent that he became obese.

However Kate’s efforts to help him shed the pounds ended in disaster when he suffered the injury playing with another dog.

When Kate took Bob in just 18 months ago he had a skin condition, arthritis, a poorly heart and ear infections.

Since then though Bob, aged 12, has lost an amazing 30 lbs as part of the PDSA’s Pet Fit club competition coming fourth in the nation.

“We use Southcrest vets and the vet said years on the streets and years of being obese are definitely a contributing factor to his poor leg,” said Kate.

Kate is holding several events to raise the funds for the op and will be running a Beagle Play Date fund raiser for him on July 3, where she will have more than 20 beagles and their owners at Hev’s Dog Playpark in Tardebigge
